ADOPTING INTERNATIONALLY from Other Countries
LSS has worked in partnership with other international agencies to place children for adoption since 1967. During that time, the agency has facilitated the adoptive placements of well over 3,000 children from other countries. Under new Hague regulations governing international adoption, the agency with the program in the foreign country is referred to as the primary provider and the agency providing home study and post placement or post adoption services to a family as the supervised provider. The primary provider is required to be Hague accredited through the Council on Accreditation and is ultimately responsible to ensure that adoption services are provided according to regulation. Although LSS is Hague-accredited, it functions as the supervised provider in this program and has no control over the actions of the primary provider. LSS has signed about 40 supervised provider agreements with other international agencies that are providing adoption services in a multitude of countries. Through this program, LSS is responsible for completing your home study, providing the 10 hours of mandated Hague training, providing post placement/adoption services as long as is required by the country of your child’s origin, and acting as a liaison with your primary provider.
