LSS Executive Management Team

Dr. Kurt Senske, J.D., Ph.D
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Senske has been with LSS since 1994 and was named CEO in 1997. He has led the agency through an extensive strategic planning process that has refocused resources and spurred phenomenal growth. Based on lessons learned as an attorney, political consultant and CEO, Senske has written three books including “The Calling: Live a Life of Significance.” Senske earned a law degree from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas. Betsy Guthrie
President
Betsy Guthrie joined LSS in 2005 and was named President in 2010 and Chief Operating Officer in 2009. She oversees operations of the entire agency. Guthrie has more than 25 years experience in the social services field. She earned her bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Wisconsin and an MBA from Almeda University. Michael Loo
Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer
Michael Loo has served as LSS’ Chief Financial Officer since 2013 and has more than 25 years of business and industry experience, including 20 in higher executive management positions such as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining LSS, he served as vice president of finance and administration of Kamehameha Schools, the largest private landholder and private school system in the State of Hawaii. Evan Moilan
Chief Mission Officer
Evan Moilan serves as the Chief Mission Officer of Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc., a multi-faceted, multi-state, social service agency with an annual operating budget of over $85 million and 900 employees.  He oversees the agency’s External Relations including: development and planned giving activities, marketing, community and church relations, and press relations. Robert Leal
Executive Vice President of Programs
Robert Leal has 20 years of experience in the field of child welfare. He worked for the State of Texas for 10 years, and for three other child-placing agencies prior to joining LSS. Leal has served as area director, regional director, and vice president for foster care and adoption for LSS. He received his master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas Arlington. David Kahle
Senior Vice President for Agency Advancement and Special Assistant to the CEO for Strategic Future Initiatives
David Kahle has been with LSS since 1992 and is responsible for supervising the agency’s development department, including community/church relations and volunteer coordination. Prior to joining LSS, Kahle was development director for a national organization serving the developmentally challenged. Mark Minick
Senior Vice President for External Relations
Mark Minick is responsible for disaster response, spiritual care and internal/external relations. He joined LSS in 1999 and has more than 20 years experience in fund raising, disaster response and management. Minick earned his bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin and his MBA in management from UT-Arlington. E-mail: Mark Minick

Carolyn Paganoni
Senior Vice President of Human Resources
Carolyn Paganoni joined LSS with 18 years of diversified and progressive human resources experience in for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, including 16 years in management positions. She has worked in the following industries: health care, behavioral health, mental health care, management services, professional services, and social services. Most recently, she worked for a behavioral healthcare system in Illinois with a 160-bed acute care facility, outpatient program, three residential programs, and three therapeutic day schools. Carolyn has a bachelor’s degree in English, an MSMOB in human resource management, and an MBA in health care. She received her HR certification in 1996. E-mail: Carolyn Paganoni

Krystale Bezio
Vice President of Adoption and Foster Care

During her 10-year tenure with the agency, Krystale has excelled in a variety of roles—FSW, area director and regional director. A Licensed Child Placing Agency Administrator (LCPAA), Krystale holds a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. E-mail: Krystale Bezio

Murray Chanow
Vice President of Community Integration
Murray joined LSS in 2013 as the Recruiting Director, bringing many years of experience in strategic planning, business development, project management, social service, child welfare, and advocacy. Knox Kimberly
Vice President for Advocacy and Education
Knox Kimberly joined LSS in 2014 to develop the organization’s external advocacy and education initiatives, giving voice to the needs and concerns of those we serve. New to Texas and to the nonprofit sector, Knox brings decades of diverse experience in public policy, advocacy, law, public service and entrepreneurship from his former home state of Arizona. Michael Nevergall
Vice President of Agency Advancement
Michael Nevergall oversees the team of gift planners who work with individuals, families, congregations, and businesses across Texas to raise awareness and support for the various LSS ministries.  Mike joined LSS in 2013 after eight years on the churchwide staff of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).  He has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Valparaiso University and a master’s degree in nonprofit administration from North Park University. Demereal Owens
Vice President of Compliance
Demereal Owens joined LSS in 2013 with 30 years of experience as the Compliance Officer. In May 2014 she became the vice president of compliance and residential programs. She has held senior management positions for over 25 years with non-profit and for profit organizations providing behavioral/mental health, foster care and adoption and social services organizations. She earned her B.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan and a master’s in social work from the University of Pittsburgh. Previous positions held include clinical director for inpatient and outpatient, admissions director for inpatient and outpatient, chief compliance officer and vice president of compliance and quality for various organizations. Jennifer Schattle
Vice President Marketing and Communications
Jennifer joined LSS in 2014 and brings more than 10 years of extensive experience in internal and external communications. Most recently, she worked for the Lower Colorado River Authority focusing on marketing, strategic messaging, employee engagement, media relations, two-way communication and electronic media. Dan Zieschang
Vice President of Community/Church Relations
Dan Zieschang has been running around Texas raising funds and awareness for those served by LSS since 2003. His team includes Community Church Relations, Directors of Volunteers Services and Assistants to the President. Abby Cochran
Grants Director
Abby Cochran joined the LSS team in 2011 as the Grants Director. Abby is a career non-profit professional and brings with her more than 15 years of development experience.
