Vision,
Mission, Values
History:
LSS has a long history of serving the most vulnerable members of society.
The agencys roots go back to 1881, when a compassionate group of Lutherans
founded the first Lutheran social ministry in Louisiana to care for children orphaned
by the black plague and yellow fever.
In 1926, like-minded Lutherans established an asylum for
widows and orphans in Round Rock, Texas.
In January 1993, the two agencies merged to become Lutheran Social Services of the South,
Inc.
While much has changed in the ensuing 127 years, there are still circumstances
that leave people in need - physically, emotionally and spiritually. The mission
of LSS has remained constant: to provide help, healing and hope in the name of
Jesus Christ.
Adjusting to Changing Needs:
As community needs and consumer preferences have changed,
LSS has sought to respond to them. The agency's ministry continues to be vibrant
and relevant as we position ourselves to respond to future needs.
To guide our
ministry we have adopted vision, mission and values statements.
Vision:
Changing
lives through innovative, quality, Christian care.
Mission:
Lutheran Social Services provides help, healing and hope in the name
of Jesus Christ.
Values:
We express our faith through a ministry of service to others.
We
believe that as a Christian agency, we should set the standard for excellence
in everything we do.
We value the perspective, guidance,
suggestions and opinions of all agency stakeholders, actively seek their input,
and attempt to find common ground where there is dissent.
We
believe that to be relevant and accountable, it is important to assess and respond
to changing needs and expectations of all stakeholders.
We
will be good stewards of the talents entrusted to us by actively balancing needs,
resources and expectations.
