THE VOLUNTARY INFANT ADOPTION PROGRAM
The Voluntary Infant Adoption Program involves the placement of infants where birth parents have voluntarily made adoption plans. Through the LSS Unplanned Pregnancy Services, pregnant women, new mothers, and interested fathers considering adoption receive counseling and case management services to assist them in making an informed choice about the future of their child. If the prospective birth parent(s) decide to make an adoption plan, they can select the family with whom they wish to entrust their child and may participate in openness to the extent agreed upon by the birth and adoptive families. If, once the child is born, the birth parents remain committed to their adoption plan, termination of parental rights is initiated, LSS is named managing conservator and the child is placed by LSS with the adoptive family selected by the birth family.
