Adoption

Since the 1940s,
Lutheran Social Services
of the South has placed
more than 7,000 children
from all over the world
with loving families.

Through involvement with Wendy's Wonderful Kids, the Adoption Coalition of Texas
and The Heart Gallery, LSS works to find adoptive homes for children in state custody.

Domestic Adoption
Texas Only

Our adoption program philosophy is based upon mutual respect and client self-determination. We view all parties of the adoption triad - birth families, adoptive families and the children being adopted - as important participants in the process. All services are contingent upon what is believed to be in the best interest of the child.

Special Needs Adoption:
Our agency is contracted with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to find loving homes for children in TDFPS conservatorship. Learn more about the children seeking "forever families" through the Texas Adoption Resources Exchange and the Heart Gallery of Central Texas.

These children have all been physically and/or sexually abused, neglected or abandoned. Support available to families includes specialized parent training, adoption subsidies and post-adoption services.

Infant Adoption: All infants available for adoption through LSS come through the agency's Unplanned Pregnancy program.

LSS helps expectant parents experiencing an unplanned pregnancy explore their options. We assist them in making informed decisions about the future of their unborn child. If the parents-to-be elect to make an adoption plan, we will help them with this process. If parenting is the chosen option, LSS will help the expectant parents identify and access appropriate community resources to meet their needs. For those choosing to make an adoption plan, contact between birth and adoptive parents are facilitated based upon mutual consent.

Non-Subsidized Program: Because there are more families interested in adopting children than there are infants available, a limited number of families are selected during intake periods. Prospective parents for the non-subsidized must meet specific eligibility requirements

Subsidized Program:
This program serves infants for whom families are not readily available. In order to decrease the time these children must wait for a family, LSS has committed to financially subsidizing this program.  Prospective parents must meet specific eligibility requirements. Learn more about the types of families needed in this program.

Foster-to-Adopt Placements: Parents open to both fostering and adopting are able to take a child into their home on a legal risk basis and provide foster care with the intent of adopting the child, if parental rights are terminated by the state.

Post Adoption Services: Adoption is a life-long process. To meet the needs of all members of the adoption triad who participated in an adoption through LSS, the agency provides post adoption services to the birth and adoptive parents and to the adopted child.
