Krause
Children's Center 5638
Medical Center Dr., Katy, TX 77494 Listen to
Christina talk about her life today and you might never spy a hint of the troubled
past she’s had to work so hard to overcome. Happily married with two children
and living in a wonderful home, she has triumphed over a past filled with sexual
and physical abuse, family secrets and addiction. “I was severely
out of control,” Christina said. “I was driving my mom absolutely
wild. She decided it would be safer for me if I was locked up. I didn’t
understand that and I thought she just didn’t want me anymore, so that made
me even more self-destructive.” Krause Children's Center
would be Christina's fourth attempt at residential treatment and a turning point
in her life. Christina said caring Krause staff and their
efforts to structure a ‘normal’ life for residents certainly made
a difference. Birthday parties, outings and holiday celebrations made her feel
special. “To have all that...brightens up your life,"
she said. "It lets you know that people care about you.” While
at Krause, Christina finished her GED and later enrolled at a community college
to pursue a business management degree. Her long-term goals are to get a business
law degree and to ensure that her own family is healthy and happy. “I
think the one thing that helped me the most was the Krause Center,” she
said. “I’m a whole lot better for being there, and things have worked
out very well for me,” she says confidently. LEARN
