Round Rock HUD community marks 20th anniversary
March 31, 2005

Round Rock - Residents of Trinity Place Apartments were joined by family, friends and advisory board members at a celebration marking the community’s 20th anniversary.

Among those attending the event was Urdith Northcutt, the first person to move into Trinity Place Apartments when it opened in February 1985.

“It’s a quiet, lovely place to live,” said Northcutt. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Northcutt and her late husband Alfred celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Trinity Place Apartments a year after they moved in.

Managed by Lutheran Social Services, the non-profit community for seniors on low incomes is located on seven tree-covered acres in Round Rock, Texas.

Speaking to the guests during the anniversary program, LSS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kurt Senske said that it was in Round Rock in 1926 that Lutheran Social Services was founded to care for the elderly and orphans.

“They couldn’t have known then that the organization they were building would eventually serve more than 25,000 people each year, including those at this beautiful community of 68 apartments,” said Senske.

Round Rock resident Royston Lanning was honored for 20 years of service as a Trinity Place Apartments board member. Lanning, who also served for eight years on the Lutheran Social Services board of directors in the 1990s, received a plaque from current Trinity Place Apartments chair Pat Patterson.

Trinity Place Apartments was dedicated February 16, 1985. Because of the great need for affordable housing, there was a lengthy waiting list of potential residents when the community opened, and the apartments were filled rapidly. Five of the original residents still call the community home.
