AUSTIN,
Texas- Lutheran Social Services recently hired Tom
Stephan as the new director of communications.
Stephan
received his bachelor's degree in communications and
English from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
and graduated with a master of fine arts in performance
from the University of Montana. Before pursuing his
master's, Stephan worked for the Naval Air Station
in Corpus Christi as the writer and editor of the
station's newspaper.
In addition
to writing and editing, Stephan also specializes in
art design, public relations and copywriting. Working
at LSS will allow Stephan to use all his skills at
once.
"Previous
jobs usually specialized in one area, such as editing,
writing, public relations or graphic design,"
Stephan said. "Now that I'm with LSS, I can use
everything I have learned over the years."
Stephan
heard about LSS after returning to Texas to spend
more time with his family.
"After
living so far away from home, I started to realize
the value my family had to me," said Stephan.
"I wanted to give something back to show my appreciation
for everything they've done for me."
"LSS
is really about creating families, which provides
me with the inspiration and excitement to go to work
in the morning," Stephan said.
Stephan
takes pride in the LSS mission to serve the children,
elderly and poor. LSS is the social service arm of
The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America. LSS affiliated ministries
serve more than 35,000 children, elderly and poor
in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi regardless
of religious beliefs, ethnicity, gender or age. Its
ministries include therapeutic foster care, adoption,
children's residential treatment centers, disaster
response, emergency assistance, senior health care,
retirement communities and adult day care.
