Bokenkamp
Children's Center names executive director
June
29 , 2006
Hector
Acevedo has joined the Bokenkamp Childrens Center
as the new Executive Director of Administration.
Bokenkamp
Childrens Center is an emergency shelter for
62 unaccompanied refugee children from Central and
South America, ranging in age from infants to teens
as old as 17. The center provides treatment and educational
services to the children until their immigration status
is resolved.
As
executive director, Acevedo coordinates organizational,
programmatic and financial services provided to the
children in care, as well as ensures each childs
physical, social, emotional, educational, spiritual
and recreational needs are met.
I
am very excited about the opportunity to make a difference
in the lives of children who have nowhere else to
turn, said Acevedo. Bible verse Jeremiah
29:11 describes the Lords plan for each of us,
and he has outlined my plan as providing a place of
hope and healing for kids. I will have this opportunity
through working with the children at Bokenkamp.
The
children are in the custody of the Federal Immigration
Customs Enforcement Agency. Most of the children are
fleeing civil war in their home countries or are victims
of sex trafficking.
Due
to the traumatic experiences these kids have gone
through, it is very important to have someone at Bokenkamp
who is extremely knowledgable and experienced in working
with children, said Kurt Senske, chief executive
officer of LSS, which owns and operates Bokenkamp.
This is why we are so excited about Hector Acevedo
coming on board.
Acevedo
is a Licensed Child-Care Administrator and has 16
years of management experience in developing and implementing
innovative behavior management programs. He received
his Bachelor of Science in pastoral studies from Southwestern
University and his Master of Science in human services
from Bellevue University.
Bokenkamp
Childrens Center is a ministry of Lutheran
Social Services.
LSS is
the social service arm of The Lutheran Church - Missouri
Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
LSS affiliated ministries serve children, elderly
and poor in Texas and Louisiana regardless of religious
beliefs, ethnicity, gender or age. Its ministries
include childrens residential treatment centers,
therapeutic foster care, adoption, disaster response,
emergency assistance, senior health care, retirement
communities and adult day care.
