community hits home run for community ministries at
Lutheran Family Night with the Astros

Texas - The Houston Astros
welcomed more than 1,000 Lutheran Social Services'
supporters to Minut Maid Park on July 29 for Lutheran
Family Night with the Astros, raising nearly $2,000
for Houston-area ministries.
Pastor Mike Aus
from Living Word Lutheran Church in Katy got the night
started by throwing out the first pitch, an honor
given to the pastor of the church who bought the most
tickets. Living Word had more than 130 people attend
the game.
The Astros put on a good show for fans, defeating
the Arizona Diamondbacks 3 to 1. Biggio hit a home
run in the first inning to score the first point of
the game.
LSS Houston-area
ministries include Krause
Children's Center for abused and neglected children,
foster
care and adoption programs and disaster
response.
Lutheran
Social Services is the social service arm of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America and The Lutheran Church
- Missouri Synod. LSS annually serves more than 35,000
children, elderly and poor in Texas and Louisiana
regardless of religious beliefs, ethnicity, gender
or age. Its nationally accredited affiliated ministries
include therapeutic foster care, adoption, childrens
residential treatment, health care and retirement
centers, emergency assistance, adult day care and
disaster response.
