New IT manager comes to LSS
with extensive technology background

AUSTIN, Texas - Dirk Uys, an experienced IT manager, programmer, database administrator, and Oracle consultant has joined Lutheran Social Services as the vice president for technology.

Uys is responsible for aligning IT strategy with the overall goals and strategies of LSS. LSS IT department runs the technology for all of LSS which has offices in 33 communities in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

"I'm very excited about this new challenge in my life, because at the end of the day, my efforts will bring hope to someone in need," said Uys. "I made a decision to move away from a profit environment and to come work for a company that will make an impact on society. At this stage in my life, I would rather move from success to significance, and I believe I will achieve both with this new opportunity."

Uys most recently worked at Freescale Semiconductors Inc. where he managed database and IT infrastructure for the organization. Among his many duties, Uys led Freescale's hardware review board providing enterprise wide change management for strategy, research, infrastructure, technologies and standards. He has worked in programming, software engineering and Oracle consulting for 17 years.

Uys received his bachelor of science in computer science from the University of Potchefstroom in South Africa. He is currently working toward his MBA in business management.

LSS is the social service arm of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. LSS affiliated ministries serve more than 35,000 people in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi regardless of religious beliefs, ethnicity, gender or age. Its ministries include children's residential treatment centers, therapeutic foster care, adoption, disaster response, emergency assistance, senior health care, retirement communities and adult day care.
