LSS official elected to
Foster Family-Based Treatment Association
Nov. 16, 2007
AUSTIN, Texas – Lutheran Social Services Vice President for Advocacy, Child and Family Services, Irene Clements, has been elected to the board ofdirectors of the Foster Family-Based Treatment Association (FFTA).
“I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity,” said Clements. “I strongly believe in the mission of the FFTA and its commitment to enhance the lives of foster children and foster families.”
It is a commitment Clements has had for virtually her entire adult life. A foster parent for 27 years, Clements and her husband cared for 127 foster children and adopted four. During her tenure at LSS, the agency’s foster care program grew from 13 children in 1996 to more than 1,100 children daily in 2007, making it the largest provider of foster care services in Texas.
FFTA is an agency-led organization of treatment foster care agencies and is committed to enhancing the lives of children with families through strengthening family-based organizations. The association’s membership is composed of agencies throughout North America currently operating treatment foster care programs.
Clements was twice named “Program Administrator of the Year” by the Texas State Foster Parent Conference. She has served seven terms as president for the Texas State Foster Parent, Inc., and was recently elected president of the Texas Foster Family Association.
“Irene is a tireless advocate for children,” said LSS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kurt Senske. “She has earned a national reputation for her efforts on behalf of children and families. We are all blessed to have her as a colleague and a friend.”
