Lutheran
Social Services wins Agency of the Year Award
April 24, 2007
AUSTIN, Texas -
Lutheran Social Services of the South, the largest
provider of foster care and residential services for
abused and neglected children in Texas, has been named
State Child Placing Agency of the Year by the National
Foster Parent Association for a third time.
Austin-based LSS took
home the top honor in 2004 and 2001. No other child
placing agency in the country has won the award more
than once.
Certainly we would
not have won this award multiple times if it were
not for the compassionate, caring work of our family
services staff and the inspirational efforts of the
nearly 680 foster families who open their hearts and
homes to care for more than 1,300 children daily,
said Kurt Senske, chief executive officer of LSS.
They deserve all the credit.
The award will be presented
at National Foster Parent Associations annual
conference in Washington, D.C. in May, which is National
Foster Care Month.
In addition to foster
care, LSS also operates three childrens residential
treatment centers, a childrens emergency shelter,
senior retirement communities, long-term disaster
response and emergency assistance. LSS is the social
service arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America and The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
