Jan. 30, 2008
AUSTIN
- The St. Luke's Health Ministries of San Antonio
has awarded a $30,000 grant to New Life Children's
Center in Canyon Lake to aid in the expansion of the
athletics and sports programs, including the creation
of a new athletics field.
The check was presented to Dr. Kurt Senske, chief
executive officer of LSS, and Dr. Gary Henry, executive
director of New Life.
"St. Luke's Lutheran Health Ministries and Lutheran
Social Services have partnered for many years to bring
opportunities to those in need all across Central
Texas," Senske said. "This gift serves as
another great milestone in our mutual dedication toward
bettering the lives of the children we serve."
Vickie Boyce, executive director of SLLHM, and Dr.
Charles Oestreich, member of the SLLHM Board of Directors,
visited New Life to award the grant.
"St. Luke's generosity will have a positive impact
on the girls of New Life for many years to come,"
Henry said. "We are grateful for their gift and
the genuine love they have for our residents."
New Life serves girls ages 11 to 17 who suffer from
severe emotional and behavioral problems, mostly as
a result of past abuse and neglect. New Life provides
specialized care in a secure, structured environment
where residents can receive therapy, attend school,
enjoy recreational activities and are offered voluntary
spiritual care.
Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc., is the
social service arm of The Lutheran Church - Missouri
Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
