names Chief Information Officer

AUSTIN, Texas - Dirk Uys, who joined Lutheran
Social Services in July 2007 as vice president of
technology, has been promoted to chief information
officer. He joins the senior leadership team which
oversees operations for the multi-faceted social service
agency, which has an annual operating budget of $74
million.
Uys, who brings more than 18 years experience in the
technology field, is responsible for aligning IT strategy
with the overall goals and strategies of LSS. The
IT department services the technology needs for all
of LSS, which has offices in 33 communities in Texas,
Louisiana, and Mississippi.
"The IT department is an important part of LSS,
and Dirk has been instrumental in moving the agency
forward in implementing and enhancing our information
resources and infrastructure so that we are all more
effective in providing services to stakeholders,"
Chief Financial Officer Ron Ratliff said.
Previously Uys worked at Freescale Semiconductors
Inc., where he managed database and IT infrastructure
for the organization. Among his many duties, Uys headed
Freescale's hardware review board in providing enterprise
wide change management for strategy, research, infrastructure,
technologies and standards.
Mr. Uys studied his B.Sc. computer science degree
at the University of Potchefstroom in South Africa.
He is currently working towards his MBA in business
management through the University of Phoenix.
LSS is the social service arm of The Lutheran Church
- Missouri Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America. LSS affiliated ministries serve more than
35,000 people in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi
regardless of religious beliefs, ethnicity, gender
or age. Its ministries include children's residential
treatment centers, therapeutic foster care, adoption,
disaster response, emergency assistance, senior health
care, retirement communities and adult day care.
