Community, church support enriches
the services provided through LSS
The following are just a few examples of how congregations, community organizations and businesses help LSS serve more than 35,000 people each year:
When the children’s dormitories at Krause Children’s Center were flooded by a malfunctioning fire alarm system, the Houston and Katy, Texas, community responded generously. Several BP America, Inc. employees made personal donations that were matched by BP’s Employee Matching Fund, bringing the BP total to more than $40,000. Through its Care in Regions Program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans matched $30,000; Salem Lutheran Church School in Tomball, Texas, donated nearly $2,000; Holy Comforter Lutheran Church in Kingwood, Texas, gave $5,000. The rest of the money came from generous donors. A total of $100,000 was raised to fully gut and restore the damaged dormitories.
Tree of Life Lutheran Church in Mesquite, Texas, has provided space for ongoing training of foster and adoptive parents several times each month. In addition, the church set up an Angel Tree to provide Christmas gifts for LSS foster children.
Lord of Life Lutheran Church, The Woodlands, Texas, provided a room for the annual Christmas party for the Spring, Texas, adoption/foster care program. The congregation also donated Christmas gifts and dinner and organized arts and crafts for the children.
For Thanksgiving, Christ Lutheran Church, El Campo, Texas, provided non-perishable food for all the foster families served in our Victoria, Texas, office. The congregation also donated $125 to purchase turkeys for those families.
In Houston, Honey Baked Ham donated most of the food to feed 200 people at the foster care program’s Christmas party.
Students at Trinity Lutheran School in Houston wrapped gifts for LSS foster children at an annual Christmas gift-wrapping party.
Spirit of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mission, Texas, made a $1,000 donation for a foster care play room and contributed to the McAllen foster care/adoption back to school supplies fund.
The Wal-Mart in McAllen, Texas, made a $575.00 donation to support training and verification of new foster families.
Concordia Lutheran Church, San Antonio, provided the San Antonio foster care office with baby clothes and baby supplies. The church also provided Christmas gifts for foster children.
El Buen Pastor Church, Lyford, Texas, donated $1,000 and Pastor Donald Neuman donated teddy bears for LSS foster children during Christmas.
The congregations of Shepherd King, Christ, Redeemer, Gloria Dei and Hope Lutheran Churches in Lubbock help throughout the year with sack lunches for Neighborhood House Assistance Ministry in Lubbock, Texas.
Prince of Peace, Trinity, Beautiful Savior, and Christ Lutheran Churches in Amarillo, Texas, and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Canyon, Texas, provided Christmas presents for our foster children.
Trinity and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Churches in Amarillo provide facilities for foster family training all through the year.
King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas, collects Christmas presents for foster children and allows LSS to use their building for our annual Christmas party.
The Mineral Wells High School National Honor Society, Mineral Wells, Texas, collected donations for school supplies for LSS foster children for the past three years.
Abiding Love, Ascension, Christ, Faith, Immanuel, Shepherd of the Hills and Zion Lutheran Churches in the Austin, Texas, area, sponsor “Angel Trees” so every LSS foster child will receive a Christmas gift.
