LSS to provide pre-marital education

Lutheran Social Services has received $950,000 for the Twogether in Texas Healthy Marriage Program, developed to help couples prepare for marriage through an eight-hour workshop.

Couples who complete the program will not have to pay the state’s marriage license fee.

“This program was developed to strengthen marriage and reduce the divorce rate in Texas with the long-term goal of strengthening families as a whole,” said Karalyn Heimlich, executive director of adoptions and marriage education.

LSS will serve 30 counties in Central Texas and plans to offer workshops every month either in the couple’s county of residence or an adjoining county.

The Twogether in Texas program is an extension the LSS Marriage Enrichment Program for Adoptive Parents who have adopted children from the foster care system.
