Born premature, and weighing only two pounds, little girl now thriving

When a child is born prematurely, she usually must spend several weeks under direct, 24-hour care in a neonatal intensive care unit.
Nicolsha was such a child. Born three months premature and weighing only two pounds, her battle to survive was especially challenging. Doctors were concerned about whether or not Nicolsha would fully recover from health problems related to her birth mother’s use of cocaine.
After Nicolsha was born, her birth mother abandoned her at the hospital. When LSS foster parents Robyn and Steve Line were told about Nicolsha, the couple decided to open their hearts to this little gift from God.
The Lines received special training on how to care for Nicolsha. During the child’s hospital stay the Amarillo couple took turns feeding her, changing her diapers and most importantly, giving Nicolsha the kind of loving, hands-on attention that only loving parents can provide.
The Lines, who have a 7-year-old daughter, decided early on to adopt Nicolsha, even though doctors said she could be blind or deaf for the rest of her life.
It was then that the Line’s received the unexpected news. After several attempts to have another child, and having given up, they learned that Robyn was pregnant. Their new son was born a week after Nicolsha’s adoption became final!
